Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi called on the United States and Iran to make room for diplomacy as tensions between Washington and Tehran continued to draw concern across the Middle East. Speaking Tuesday in Cairo alongside Slovenian President Natasa Pirc Musar, Sisi urged both sides to seek a political agreement that addresses the main demands of the parties involved.
Sisi said dialogue and mutual understanding were needed “before it is too late.” He warned that the alternative could affect countries beyond the two governments involved in the dispute.
“The alternative would have catastrophic repercussions and consequences for the region and the world, which has been suffering successive crises for six years.”
The Egyptian president called on Washington and Tehran to show flexibility and identify areas of common understanding. He said reaching an agreement would help prevent the Middle East from sliding into a wider conflict and would give mediators greater support in their efforts to resolve the dispute.
