Colgate University has suspended activities for its men’s lacrosse program while the university investigates electronic communications involving team members that may have violated institutional policies and student conduct standards.
Vice President and Director of Athletics Yariv Amir and Vice President and Dean of the College Paul J. McLoughlin II informed the Colgate community in an email Tuesday. The university said officials learned about the communications Monday, Oct. 26.
“As with all student conduct investigations, the University does not predetermine any findings of responsibility or of outcomes,” Amir and McLoughlin wrote.
Activities halted during fallball
The suspension stops practices and scrimmages for the Raiders while the inquiry proceeds. Colgate’s team is currently participating in fallball, the program’s fall period before the spring competitive season.
The communications at issue were not described in the university email. The investigation is being handled under Colgate’s student conduct process, which allows university officials to examine potential policy violations before reaching findings.

Recent competitive history
Colgate finished the 2026 season with a 6-9 record and reached the Patriot League tournament semifinals. The Raiders were eliminated by Loyola at that stage of the conference tournament.
The university’s announcement came as the team was preparing during the fall portion of its schedule. The suspension affects the program’s current team activities, while the inquiry addresses whether electronic communications breached university rules or student conduct standards.
Amir and McLoughlin said the university would not predetermine responsibility or outcomes. The Colgate Maroon-News first reported the suspension, and Inside Lacrosse published details from the university’s communication.
