Oklahoma Wesleyan captured its eighth consecutive Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season championship Saturday, defeating York University 2-1 at home.

The title gives the Lady Eagles an automatic berth in the NAIA national tournament. Oklahoma Wesleyan also enters the postseason after reaching the national semifinals last season.

Title follows late-season unbeaten run

Oklahoma Wesleyan opened this season with two losses but has since gone 12-0-4 across its last 16 matches, according to the team’s results. The four other matches in that stretch ended in draws, and the Eagles have not lost since Aug. 29, when Lindsey Wilson defeated them 2-1.

The victory over York secured the regular-season championship before the conference tournament. Oklahoma Wesleyan has won the KCAC tournament six times in the last seven years, adding a strong postseason record to its run of regular-season titles.

  • Regular-season titles: eight in a row
  • Recent record: 12 wins, four draws and no losses in the past 16 matches
  • Last defeat: 2-1 against Lindsey Wilson on Aug. 29
  • National tournament: automatic NAIA berth earned through the conference championship

KCAC tournament begins Wednesday

Oklahoma Wesleyan will begin its conference-tournament schedule against Southwestern University at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Bartlesville. The match is the Eagles’ first step in an effort to add another KCAC tournament championship to their recent run.

The regular-season title also secures Oklahoma Wesleyan’s place in the NAIA national tournament. The Eagles’ previous national tournament appearance ended with a semifinal run, giving the program another postseason opportunity after its latest conference championship.
