Fox will premiere its reboot of Baywatch on Jan. 6 at 9 p.m., the network announced Monday. The series, ordered for 12 episodes for the 2026-2027 broadcast season, continues the beach-lifesaving drama first launched in 1989.

new generation, old legacy

The new series centers on Hobie Buchannon, now a Baywatch captain portrayed by Stephen Amell. The arrival of Charlie, played by Jessica Belkin and revealed to be the daughter Hobie never knew, upends his life and sets up a father-daughter story as she pursues becoming a lifeguard.

The ensemble includes Shay Mitchell, Brooks Nader, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Noah Beck, David Chokachi and Thaddeus LaGrone. Recurring players announced for the series are Ashley Moore, Luke Eisner, Nadia Gray, Kylar Miranda and Charlie McElveen. Hip-hop artist Megan Thee Stallion is listed as making an appearance.

  • Fox gave the series a 12-episode order for the 2026-2027 broadcast season.
  • Production began in Los Angeles in the spring after an open casting call earlier this year.
  • McG directed the premiere episode and serves as an executive producer along with showrunner Matt Nix and several original series creators.

Executive producers named on the project include showrunner Matt Nix, McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto and Mike Horowitz. The series is a co-production of Fox Entertainment and Fremantle.

The original Baywatch, which debuted in 1989, became a global television phenomenon at its peak, airing in more than 200 countries and helping launch performers including Pamela Anderson. The property has previously been adapted into spinoffs and a 2017 feature film that did not spawn a television continuation.

Fox and the producers released promotional material alongside the premiere announcement. The network has scheduled the series on a winter weekday evening as part of its midseason lineup.
