The Utica women’s hockey team won their sixth game in a row this afternoon as they easily took care of business against visiting Cortland State 6-0.

The Pioneers improve to 15-8-1 on the season and 10-6-1in conference play.

This also continues Utica’s undefeated streak this year on home ice with a record of 7-0-1. Cortland state has not had an ideal season as they fall to 3-20-1 overall.
Senior Keira Goin had some insight before the game this afternoon on how things could play out for the upcoming ECAC West tournament.

“With two wins this weekend and some other luck in our conference, we could play the first round of playoffs on home ice which, as a senior, is very motivating,” Goin said. “I think that it’s something we can accomplish as a team and over the course of the last five games, I’ve seen my teammates find a new level and devotion to being successful as a unit rather than as individuals.”

Goin couldn’t have been more spot on, her team absolutely took over in the third period scoring five goals to seal this one.

UC opened up the scoring not even three minutes into the first as sophomore Elizabeth Dohner netted her seventh of the season.

Senior Gabrielle Schneep assisted Dohner on the goal for her 70th career assist moving into sole possession of third place on the all-time assist list for the Pioneers.

Both teams were held scoreless in the second. UC did let up in the third as they scored three goals in less than two minutes to take a 5-0 lead.

Sophomore Lauren Patterson scored the final goal for the Pioneers to seal the game with a six-goal victory.

Goin finished her shutout night with 25 saves.

The Pioneers look to finish off their season strong tomorrow as they visit Cortland State at 2 p.m.
