The Utica College men’s hockey team defeated the nationally ranked Hobart college team 3-2 Saturday night. Utica now has a five game winning streak and remains in first place in the ECAC West conference with a 10-1 league record.

Utica was held scoreless for the first 37 minutes of the game and found themselves down 2-0 until Junior Roman Ammirato scored on a power-play goal with three minutes left in the second period.

Freshman Jarrod Fitzpatrick followed up with his own power-play goal two minutes later to tie the game right before the final intermission.

The game-winning goal halfway through the third period belonged to sophomore Shawn Lynch. His shot came off a turnover by Hobart in the Pioneers offensive zone and Lynch squeezed a near post wrist shot between the goalie’s arm and leg.

Freshman Goaltender Patrik Virtanen had 30 saves for the Pioneers which included a diving stick save in the second period. The save kept Utica within two scores which proved to be a costly miss for Hobart.

Utica is back in action Friday night when they travel to Stevenson University.
