It is that time of year again! Girl Scouts all over the country are selling their beloved Girl Scout cookies to raise funds for their local troops.

Students at Utica College shared their thoughts about Girl Scout cookies, including their favorite flavors.

Junior Jamie Miller loves to eat Girl Scout cookies for a snack.

“If the cookies were selling all year long, then I would be spending a lot of my money on them,” Miller said. “That would also just give me an excuse to buy more and more cookies.”

Miller’s favorite cookies are Samoas, and she gets her fix through her sister’s connection at her job.

“My sister works with someone who’s daughter sells Girl Scout cookies,” Miller said. “She usually buys a whole bunch of them and then she shares them with me.”

There are a variety of available flavors, such as Tagalongs (Peanut Butter Patties), Samoas (Caramel deLites), S’mores, Toffee-Tastic, Lemonades, Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos, Savannah Smiles, Trefoils (Shortbread) and Thanks-A-Lot.

The best selling Girl Scout cookies are Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos, Samoas, S’mores and Tagalongs. With the purchase of boxes of $5, Girl Scout cookie buyers are helping girls experience life-changing adventures and partake in once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

Girl Scouts announced the new gluten-free cookie flavor, caramel Chocolate Chip. This flavor will be on sale along with the other cookie flavors for the 2019 cookie season. Toffee-Tastic is another gluten-free cookie that will be available.

However, there are also people who will not be buying cookies this year because there are multiple cookie brands that have similar flavors with a more reasonable price tag.

Freshman Brandon Walentowski enjoys the cookies but not enough to splurge on a box.

“My favorite Girl Scout cookie flavor is Thin Mints,” Walentowski said. “Girl Scout cookies are good, I just do not think about them enough to buy them.”

Sophomore Jacob Bartlett is not going to buy Girl Scout cookies this year but had some suggestions for them.

“I wish they would sell all year long,” Bartlett said. “I also wish the price of the cookies were cheaper, but that is how they make money, so I completely understand why they cost what they do.”
