Dorms and the size of the space students get to live in can play a big role in students’ happiness while being away at college. Utica College has to make sure that the dorms are big enough and suitable for multiple students to live in one room happily throughout each semester.
Space may get cramped sometimes, but students seem to have a handle on how to make the best of living in a small space.
“I live in Alumni and it’s small for a big guy like me,” Toby Neto said. “I use lots of hangers for my clothes and put bins under my bed to save me some space. The beds are small for me, though.”
U.C. has a variety of living options. However, as freshman, some students get placed into triples. Many students still had positive comments on the dorm space at UC.
“I have a single because I am an RA and my room is very small, but I have plenty of room because I am extremely organized. I had a few triples on my floor this year and we were able to fit three sets of furniture in the room without a problem, “ Maggie Notter said. “Some of the students eventually de-tripled but I have a few on my floor that haven’t because they like living there. I think the best way they utilized their space was by sharing things like fridges and microwaves with their roommates.”
At UC, we are lucky that the longer we’re in school, the better picks we have on choosing where we live each year. The choices for dorms range from doubles in North and South, to suite-style living in New, Tower and Bell Hall, to apartment-style living in Alumni.
By the time students are juniors and seniors, they often are able to live in their dorm of choice. At many other colleges where there are higher volumes of students, many students have to triple even as juniors.
“I really enjoy living in the dorms here at Utica College. I’m a junior and I feel as if I interact with a lot more people since I live on campus in the dorms,” Alfonso Whitehurst said. “The space we have here is surprisingly more spacious than other schools dorms. When I visit my friends at other schools, their dorm space was very small compared to ours.”
Overall, students at Utica College are happy with their dorm space and they hope that each year, our school is working to make better living conditions for the students in the future.
